About the AFHRA

The AFHRA We Need

The core mission of the Air Force Historical Research Agency (AFHRA) remains unchanged from the day it was created—an archive dedicated to receiving, organizing, maintaining, preserving, and making accessible documentation concerning the development and employment of U.S. air power, and now space power. In sum, the Agency serves as the institutional memory of the Department of the Air Force (DAF) and since its inception has steadfastly answered the call.

Although the mission has remained unchanged, AFHRA is at an inflection point as it moves into the digital world. The history and archival landscapes have changed. We are faced with operating in a digital environment that demands not only access, but the ability to operationalize and leverage historical information to inform leadership across a wide DAF spectrum at the speed of relevance. With this we must focus our collective efforts on accelerating change to develop the AFHRA we need to meet the historical informational demands of the DAF, government agencies, and the general public now and into the future.
