9 Air Support Operations Sq (ACC)

Lineage.    Constituted as 9 Communications Squadron, Air Support, on 10 Aug 1942.  Activated on 21 Aug 1942.  Redesignated as: 9 Air Support Communication Squadron on 11 Jan 1943; 9 Air Support Control Squadron on 20 Aug 1943; 9 Tactical Air Communications Squadron on 1 Apr 1944.  Inactivated on 28 Nov 1945.  Disbanded on 8 Oct 1948.  Reconstituted, and redesignated as 9 Air Support Operations Squadron, on 24 Jun 1994.  Activated on 1 Jul 1994.

Operations.   Combat in Southwest Pacific, Mar 1944-Apr 1945.  Air support parties served with US Army forces, directing air support missions for the forces they served.  Participated in numerous assault landings.
