5 Air Support Operations Sq (ACC)

Lineage.  Constituted 5 Communications Squadron, Air Support, on 15 May 1942.  Activated on 22 May 1942.  Redesignated: 5 Air Support Communication Squadron on 11 Jan 1943; 5 Air Support Control Squadron on 20 Aug 1943; 5 Tactical Air Communications Squadron on 1 Apr 1944.  Inactivated on 28 Nov 1945.  Disbanded on 8 Oct 1948.  Reconstituted, and redesignated 5 Air Support Operations Squadron on 24 Jun 1994.  Activated on 1 Jul 1994.

Operations.  Combat in Southwest Pacific, Jul 1943-1945.  Air support parties served with US Marines and Australian and US ground forces, directing air support missions for the forces they served.  Participated in numerous amphibious assault landings.  Supported combat operations during the Global War on Terror, 2001-.
