Lineage.  Constituted 26 Air Rescue Squadron on 17 Oct 1952.  Activated on 14 Nov 1952.  Inactivated on 8 Dec 1956.  Redesignated 26 Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, and converted to provisional status, on 12 Dec 2002.  Activated on 20 Mar 2003.  Inactivated on 10 Sep 2003.

Assignments.  1 Air Rescue Group (attached to Caribbean Air Command for operational control), 14 Nov 1952-8 Dec 1956.  Air Combat Command to activate or inactivate at any time after 12 Dec 2002.  438 Air Expeditionary Wing, 20 Mar-10 Sept 2003

Stations. Albrook AFB, Canal Zone, 14 Nov 1952-8 Dec 1956.  Jacobabad, Pakistan, 20 Mar-10 Sep 2003.

Commanders.  Maj James R. Wesley, 14 Nov 1952; Lt Col Dick W. Thompson Jr., 15 Dec 1953; Maj George O. Hambrick, by Sep 1955; Lt Col George P. Bahler, by Dec 1955-1956.

Operations.  Search and rescue and aeromedical evacuation operations primarily over land and water areas around Panama, but extending into Central America and northwestern areas of South America, 1952-1956.
