Lineage.   Constituted as 28 Pursuit Squadron (Interceptor) on 22 Dec 1939.  Activated on 1 Feb 1940.  Redesignated as:  28 Fighter Squadron on 15 May 1942; 28 Fighter Squadron (Single Engine) in 1943; 28 Fighter Squadron, Single Engine on 20 Aug 1943; 28 Fighter Squadron, Two Engine on 13 Jan 1945; 28 Fighter Squadron, Single Engine on 8 Jan 1946.  Inactivated on 15 Oct 1946.  Redesignated as 28 Fighter-Bomber Squadron on 3 Mar 1953.  Activated on 8 Apr 1953.  Inactivated on 25 Jun 1953.  Redesignated as 28 Test Squadron on 9 Apr 1993.  Activated on 15 Apr 1993.  Redesignated as 28 Test and Evaluation Squadron on 12 Apr 2006.
