Lineage.  Constituted as 68 Troop Carrier Squadron on 22 Jan 1943.  Activated on 9 Feb 1943.  Inactivated on 15 Jan 1946.  Activated in the Reserve on 3 Aug 1947.   Redesignated as 68 Troop Carrier Squadron, Medium on 27 Jun 1949.  Ordered to active service on 15 Oct 1950.  Inactivated on 14 Jul 1952.  Activated in the Reserve on 18 May 1955.  Redesignated as: 68 Tactical Airlift Squadron on 1 Jul 1967; 68 Military Airlift Squadron on 1 Apr 1985; 68 Airlift Squadron on 1 Feb 1992.
