Career assignments include: various duties as company and field grade officer, 1949-1968; Commander, 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, 1968-1970; Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans, J-5, HQ NORAD, 1970-1973; Commandant, Air War College, 1973-1975; Commander, HQ Ninth Air Force, 1975-1978; Commander, Twelfth Air Force, 1978-1979, Commander-in-Chief, North American Aerospace Defense Command and Aerospace Defense Command, and Commander, Aerospace Defense Center, 1980-1984 (assumed command of USAF Space Command, 1982). Retired 30 July 1984.
