Career assignments include: various duties as company and field grade officer, 1922-1943; Commanding Officer, 13th Bomb Wing, 1943-1944; Commanding General, Eastern Command, US Strategic Air Forces - Europe, 1944; Military Attaché, Sweden, 1944-1947; Director of Procurement and Industrial Planning, 1947-1950; Director of Supply and Services, 1951-1952; Deputy Chief of Staff, Materiel Commander, Fourth Air Force, 1952-1955. Retired January 1955. Died 30 November 1956, San Francisco, CA.

Official papers relating to Kessler's duties as Commanding General, Eastern Command, US Strategic Air Forces, 1944. Includes his diary as Commander, a report on morale of personnel in the Eastern Command, and a report by Major General F.L. Anderson on daily target selection.
