Career assignments include: various duties as company and field grade officer, 1934-1945; Chief of Staff, HQ China Theater, 1945-1946; Senior Air Advisor, Advisory Mission, Nanking, China, 1946-1947; Chief, Reserve and National Guard Division, HQ USAF, 1947-1948; Chief, Civil Components Group, HQ USAF, 1948; Deputy Special Assistant for Reserve Forces, HQ USAF, 1948-1950; successively Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander, 3rd Air Division, 1950-1951; Deputy Commander, Third Air Force, May 1951; Commanding General, 7th Air Division, 1951-1953; Director of Plans, Strategic Air Command, 1953-1957; Commanding General, Second Air Force, 1957-1961; Vice Commander-in-Chief, SAC, 1961-1962; Deputy Commander-in-Chief, US European Command, 1962-1964; Vice Chief of Staff, HQ USAF, 1964-1965; Chief of Staff, HQ USAF, 1965-1969. Retired July 1969. Died in Washington, DC.
