Military assignments include: Staff Officer, Office of Chief of Air Corps and HQ USAAF, 1941-1942; Deputy Chairman, Advisory Committee on Bombardment (later Committee of Operations Analysts), 1942-1944; Staff Officer, US Strategic Bombing Survey, 1944-1945; relieved from active duty, September 1945. Special Consultant, USAF, 1948-1949; Deputy Chairman, Joint Disarmament Study Group, 1959-1960. Civilian positions include: Law Partner, Hutchins and Wheeler, 1937-1941; successively Partner and Counsel, Hemenway and Barnes, 1945-1988; President and Trustee, Eastern Utilities Associates and Trustee, Massachusetts Investors Trust, 1949-1975. Author of Leaves From My Book of Life (1975).
