Career assignments include: various duties as company and field grade officer, 1939-1951; Commander, 810th Air Division, 1951-1953; Commander, 19th Air Division, 19531956; Director of Materiel, HQ Strategic Air Command (SAC), 1956-1960, Commander, Sixteenth Air Force, 1960-1961; Commander, Second Air Force, 1961-1963; The Inspector General, HQ USAF, 1963-1964; Commander-in-Chief, SAC, 1964-1967; Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Air Forces, 1967-1968; Vice Chief of Staff, HQ USAF, 1968-1969; Chief of Staff, HQ USAF, 1969-1973. Retired August 1973. Died at Lackland AFB, TX.
