Reconstituted, and redesignated 42 Troop Carrier Squadron, Medium (Special) on 6 Sep 1956. Activated on 25 Oct 1956. Inactivated on 8 Dec 1957. Redesignated 42 Expeditionary Airlift Squadron, and converted to provisional status, on 6 Nov 2007. Activated on 1 Oct 2008.
