Edward "Pete" C. Aldridge was born in Houston, Texas. He spent most of his youth in Shreveport, Louisiana. In 1960, he received his bachelor's degree in aeronautical engineering from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University. In 1962, he received his master's degree in aeronautical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Mr. Aldridge joined the Department of Defense (DoD) in 1967 and served on the staff of the assistant secretary of defense and director of the Strategic Defensive Division until July of 1972. He returned to private industry until he returned to DoD in February of 1974. He served the nation for 18 years in the DoD. Mr. Aldridge was the "acting" Secretary of the Air Force from 8 April 1986 until 8 June 1986 and he was the Secretary of the Air Force from 9 June 1986 until 16 December 1988. From May of 2001 until his retirement in May of 2003, Mr. Aldridge was the Under Secretary of Defense (Acquisition, Technology, and Logistics).
