Lineage: Constituted Air Base Squadron, 5 Air Base Group on 22 Aug 1940. Activated on 15 Sep 1940. Redesignated: 6 Air Base Squadron on 17 Jan 1941; 6 Base Headquarters and Air Base Squadron on 13 Jun 1942. Disbanded on 1 Apr 1944. Reconstituted, and redesignated 6 Mission Support Squadron, on 22 Dec 1993. Activated on 4 Jan 1994. Redesignated 6 Force Support Squadron on 1 Nov 2008. 

Assignments: 5 Air Base Group, 15 Sep 1940; 2 Air Force Base Command, 13 Nov 1941-1 Apr 1944; 6 Support Group (later 6 Mission Support Group), 4 Jan 1994-. 

Stations: Salt Lake City AAB, UT, 15 Sep 1940-1 Apr 1944. MacDill AFB, FL, 4 Jan 1994-. 

Service Streamers: World War II American Theater. 

Campaign Streamers: None 

Armed Forces Expeditionary Streamers: None. 

Decorations: Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards: 1 Jun 1994-31 May 1996; 1 Jul 1996-30 Jun 1998; 1 Jul 1998-30 Jun 2000; 1 Jul 2004-30 Jun 2006.
