82 Expeditionary Rescue Squadron (USAFE)

Lineage.  Constituted as 82 Air Rescue Squadron on 12 Aug 1952.  Activated on 1 Sep 1952.  Inactivated on 21 Sep 1953.  Redesignated as 82 Expeditionary Rescue Squadron, and converted to provisional status, on 14 Apr 2003.


Assignments.  12 Air Rescue Group, 1 Sep 1952-21 Sep 1953 (attached to Twelfth Air Force, 30 Oct 1952-21 Sep 1953).  Air Combat Command to activate or inactivate at any time on or after 14 Apr 2003; United States Air Forces in Europe to activate or inactivate at any time on or after 1 Oct 2008-.


Stations.  Palm Beach International Airport, FL, 1 Sep-20 Oct 1952; Bordeaux, France, 30 Oct 1952-21 Sep 1953.

Operations.   Prepared for overseas deployment, Sep-Oct 1952.  Trained to meet rescue requirements in southeastern Europe; conducted search missions, overwater coverage for fighter movement and emergency air evacuation of ill and injured personnel, Nov 1952-Jul 1953.  1 Jul 1953, ceased to function; all personnel transferred to 81 Air Rescue Squadron.
