Lineage.  Constituted as 86 Installations Squadron, Fighter, Single Engine, and activated, on 1 Jul 1948.  Redesignated as 86 Installations Squadron on 20 Jan 1950.  Inactivated on 8 Mar 1958.  Activated on 1 Nov 1969.  Redesignated as 86 Civil Engineering Squadron on 14 Nov 1969.  Inactivated on 14 Jun 1985.  Activated on 1 May 1991.  Redesignated as 86 Civil Engineer Squadron on 1 Mar 1994.  Inactivated on 15 Jan 2004.  Activated on 16 Jul 2009.
