Lineage.  Designated as 1721 Combat Control Squadron, and activated, on 1 Jul 1984.  Redesignated as 624 Combat Control Squadron on 1 Jun 1992.  Inactivated on 1 Oct 1993.  Redesignated as 21 Special Tactics Squadron, and activated, on 1 May 1996.   

Assignments.  Twenty-First Air Force, 1 Jul 1984; 1725 Combat Control Group, 1 Mar 1991; 624 Airlift Support Group, 1 Jun 1992-1 Oct 1993.  720 Special Tactics Group, 1 May 1996-.

Stations.  Pope AFB, NC, 1 Jul 1984-1 Oct 1993.  Pope AFB (later, Pope Army Airfield), NC, 1 May 1996-.

Service Streamers.  None.

Campaign Streamers.  Southwest Asia:  Defense of Saudi Arabia; Liberation and Defense of Kuwait.  Afghanistan: Liberation of Afghanistan; Consolidation I; Consolidation II; Consolidation III.  Iraq: Liberation of Iraq; Transition of Iraq; Iraqi Governance; Iraqi Surge; Iraqi Sovereignty; New Dawn.
