Lineage.  Constituted as 823 Air Police Squadron on 19 Jan 1956.  Activated on 1 Jun 1956.  Redesignated as 823 Combat Defense Squadron on 1 Nov 1958.  Discontinued, and inactivated, on 1 Oct 1961. Consolidated (12 Oct 1984) with the 823 Combat Security Police Squadron, which was constituted on 2 Oct 1968.   Activated on 15 Oct 1968.  Inactivated on 31 Dec 1969.  Redesignated as: 823 Security Police Squadron on 12 Oct 1984; 823 Security Forces Squadron on 20 Sep 2000.  Activated on 6 Dec 2000.  Redesignated as 823 Base Defense Squadron on 30 Sep 2010.

Assignments.  823 Air Base (later, 823 Combat Support) Group, 1 Jun 1956-1 Oct 1961.  82 Combat Security Police Wing, 15 Oct 1968-31 Dec 1969.  820 Security Forces (later, 820 Base Defense) Group, 6 Dec 2000-.

Stations.  Homestead AFB, FL, 1 Jun 1956-1 Oct 1961.  England AFB, LA, 15 Oct 1968-31 Dec 1969.  Moody AFB, GA, 6 Dec 2000-.

Service Streamers.  None.

Campaign Streamers.  Vietnam: TET 69/Counteroffensive.

Armed Forces Expeditionary Streamers.  None.

Decorations.  Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with Combat “V” Device: 1 Jun 2002-31 May 2003. Meritorious Unit Awards: 1 Jun 2012-31 May 2013; 1 Jun 2013-31 May 2014.  Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards: 1 Jun 2004-31 May 2006; 25 Jan 2008-31 May 2009; 1 Jun 2009-31 May 2010; 1 Jun 2010-31 May 2011; 1 Jun 2011-31 May 2012; 1 Jun 2014-31 May 2015.  Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm: 25 Mar-8 Jun 1969.
