 Lineage.    Constituted as 1 Flying Training Squadron on 9 May 1969.  Activated on 1 Jul 1969.  Inactivated 30 Jun 1971.  Consolidated (1 May 1993) with 1 Flight Screening Squadron, which was constituted on 1 Jun 1990.  Activated on 4 Jun 1990.  Redesignated as 1 Flying Training Squadron on 28 May 1993.  Inactivated on 1 Apr 1994.  Activated on 14 December 2007.

Operations.   Provided pilot and navigator proficiency training to all Air Force rated personnel assigned to headquarters in the Washington D.C. area, 1969-1971.  Conducted the USAF flight screening program for pilot training candidates, 1990-1994; flew initial T-3A Firefly operations in early 1994.  Screened USAF Academy aviator candidates for entry into Undergraduate Flight Training, 2007-.  Trained undergraduate pilot, combat systems operator, and remotely piloted aircraft candidates for Undergraduate Flight Training entry, 2015-.
