Lineage. Constituted Air Force Band, Mitchel Field, NY on 24 Sep 1941. Activated on 1 Oct 1941. Redesignated: 81 Army Air Forces Band on 10 Aug 1942; 581 Army Band on 27 Dec 1943; 581 Army Air Forces Band on 26 Feb 1944; 581 Air Force Band on 26 Sep 1947; Command Band of the Air Force Reserve on 1 Oct 1991; Band of the Air Force Reserve on 1 Oct 1994; Band of the United States Air Force Reserve on 15 May 1997.

Assignments. First Air Force, 1 Oct 1941; Air Defense Command, 21 Mar 1946; First Air Force, 17 Nov 1947; Continental Air Command, 25 Mar 1958; Air Force Reserve (later, Air Force Reserve Command), 1 Aug 1968-.

Stations. Mitchel Field (later, Mitchel AFB), NY, 1 Oct 1941; Robins AFB, GA, 16 Apr 1961- (deployed to Russia, May 1992; southwestern Asia during operations such as Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, and New Dawn: Oct-Dec 2005, Apr 2006, Nov-Dec 2006, Jun 2007, Nov-Dec 2007, Dec 2008, Nov-Dec 2009, Feb 2010, Dec 2010-May 2011, and Nov-Dec 2011).
