Lineage.  Constituted as 86 Maintenance Squadron, Fighter, Single Engine, and activated, on 1 Jul 1948.  Redesignated as 86 Maintenance Squadron on 20 Jan 1950.  Inactivated on 11 May 1953.  Redesignated as 86 Field Maintenance Squadron, and activated, on 14 Nov 1969.   Redesignated as: 86 Equipment Maintenance Squadron on 31 Jan 1979; 86 Maintenance Squadron on 30 Aug 1991.

Assignments.  86 Maintenance and Supply Group, 1 Jul 1948-11 May 1953.  86 Tactical Fighter Wing, 14 Nov 1969; 86 Tactical Fighter Group, 22 Sep 1975; 86 Tactical Fighter Wing, 14 Jun 1985; 86 Logistics Group (later, 86 Maintenance Group), 1 May 1991-.
