Lineage.  Constituted as 1 Aerospace Surveillance and Control Squadron, and activated, on 6 Feb 1961.  Organized on 14 Feb 1961.  Redesignated as 1 Aerospace Control Squadron on 1 Jul 1962.  Inactivated on 21 Apr 1976.   Redesignated as 1 Satellite Control Squadron on 25 Sep 1987.  Activated on 5 Oct 1987.   Redesignated as 1 Space Operations Squadron on 30 Jan 1992.

Operations.   Operated Space Detection and Tracking System Center, tracking and cataloging man-made objects in space, 1961-1976.  Beginning in 1987, conducted satellite command and control for the NAVSTAR Global Positioning System, the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program, and the Defense Support Program; operated the Multi-Mission Satellite Operations Center (MMSOC) to exercise authority for Operational Responsive Space-1 (ORS-1) and Tactical Satellite-3 (TACSAT-3), 2011-.
