Career assignments include: various duties as company and field grade officer, 1931-1944; successively Deputy Commander, Operations, and Chief of Staff, Ninth Air Force, 1944-1945; Commander, Tactical Air Command, 1948-1950; Commander, Twelfth Air Force, 1953-1956; Commander, Fourth Allied Tactical Air Force, 1956-1957; Commander, Ninth Air Force, 1957-1958; Chief of Staff, United Nations Command and United States Forces Korea, 1958-1959; Vice Commander, Air Defense Command, 1959-1961; Commander, Air Defense Command, 1961-1963; Air Deputy to Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, 1963-1966. Retired July 1966.

Personal and official papers relating to Lee's Air Force career, primarily for 1941-1949 and pertaining largely to tactical air power and air-ground support. Includes proceedings and report of Air Ground Training Test Board (1941). Also includes various reports and studies relating to WWII operations and activities of Ninth Air Force and subordinate commands, 1944-1945.Contains materials on tactical air operations, fighter bomber control, and ground-air support. Also contains a statistical summary of Ninth Air Force operations (1943-1945). Also includes a few reports of the General Board, US Forces-European Theater of Operation (1945) pertaining to control of tactical aircraft, the tactical air force in Europe, and the strategy of the Western Europe campaign, 1944-1945. Includes lectures by Lee on tactical air support (1949), materials from various air indoctrination courses (1947-1949), reports of Puerto Rican Exercise (1950), a report on transport aircraft and mission assignments of transport organizations (1949), and a pictorial account of Exercise SEMINOLE (1947). Also includes several lectures by General Ralph Stearley and some memoranda relating to tactical air operations (1943-1944). Also contains various other memorabilia, scrapbooks, albums and photographs (1932-1966) relating mostly to duty in WWII, Ninth Air Force, Twelfth Air Force and Fourth Allied Tactical Air Force.
