Personal papers relating to Naughton's attempted escape from a train while being held as a prisoner of war in Germany, and his subsequent court martial and imprisonment by the Germans. Naughton led a concerted attempt to escape by seven unarmed prisoners against four German guards. He was unsuccessful in his attempt to gain freedom, but his efforts helped six others to escape.
